Cape Coral UEP Sewer Letter Checklist

The City notice starts the connection clock. The sewer hookup starts a separate septic-abandonment clock, so keep both dates and both scopes organized.

A Notice of Availability is different from an assessment notice or a general construction update. It tells you that the utility is available and starts the City's connection deadline for that property.

Keep the two clocks separate

  1. Connection clock: the City of Cape Coral's construction-process guidance says owners must connect within 180 days after the Notice of Availability.
  2. Abandonment clock: DOH-Lee says septic abandonment must be completed within 90 days after connection to public sewer.

The second clock begins with the completed sewer connection, not with the letter date. Save the Notice of Availability and the final connection documentation so the dates are clear.

UEP homeowner checklist

  • Confirm the letter and parcel. Match the owner name, service address, parcel information, and available utilities.
  • Confirm current City requirements. Ask the City about utility permits, meter requirements, fees, assessments, and approved timing for the property.
  • Separate contractor scopes. The sewer connection, septic pump-out, abandonment work, and inspections may involve different qualified parties.
  • Apply for the abandonment permit. DOH-Lee publishes the current application process and fee; confirm the amount when applying because fees can change.
  • Keep the pump receipt. DOH-Lee requires the tank to be pumped by a licensed septage hauler and instructs owners to retain and submit the receipt.
  • Complete crush-and-fill work. The tank must be made unable to hold water and filled with suitable clean material.
  • Request the final inspection. Follow DOH-Lee's current instructions and retain the final record with the property file.

Check the construction phase, not neighborhood rumors

The City's North 1 page currently distinguishes North 1 West, where Notices of Availability have been sent, from North 1 East construction. Phase dates and contractor schedules move, so use the property-specific City notice as the controlling document.

What to have ready when requesting the pump-out

Provide the property address, Notice of Availability date, planned or completed sewer-connection date, tank location, lid access, permit status, and any special access constraints. Review the full Cape Coral septic-abandonment service guide before scheduling.
